Why did we join?

We all started our martial arts journey for a reason. Some joins for self defense, others join because their siblings asked them to. Whatever the reasons, let us look back at the very same reasons that got us into martial arts in the first place, are they still relevant?
Funny enough, I joined Aikido partly because of Steven Seagal, the other reasons was as an military serviceman then, I get some discounts as the Aikido school was housed in an Armed Forces recreation club (SAFRA Bukit Merah)
Now, many years back, I can no longer relate with affinity to idolize Steven Seagal, and the recreation club is closed.
Despite of the changes, Aikido still remains very close to my heart and continues to fuel and satisfy my needs.
