Forever forever?

My friend Vincent posted something on Facebook which prompted me to think about this word. ‘When the “forever” part of the “I love you forever” is gone… what’s left is “I love you.” ~ Vy’

Well. we all want to know ‘forever’ isn’t it?

Take a leaf from Buddhism, one of he central theme is impermanence, and the suffering caused if we think forever, as there is no such thing as forever, or ‘permanence’. Even the state of impermanence is impermanent. Nothing is forever. it can be scary to think about it, because our human psyche needs to hold on to something constant, very much like the character in Snoopy ‘Linus van Pelt’ with his empirical security blanket. we all have our metaphorical blanket, we must admit.

Isn’t it delusional then to cling onto that constancy when it is all but a fallacy? that is where we lie in the brink of insanity. we cannot face reality squarely, it will become too cruel, too harsh for the frail humanity in us. we cannot accept that every fleeting moment, every nano second of our existence is changing. Everything is vibrating violently in a flux, and hell, we are all gonna die! Our brain will capitulate if we keep going at that train of thoughts, hell, it’ll be a train wreck.

So our brain will concoct something that is seemingly constant and thinks itself into believing that that ‘thing’ is forever, love, hate, diamond, universe, gravity, God or whatever you can possibly put a name on, people will want to it permanent. One part of our brain knows it’s not possible, the other part keeps telling lies to keep ourselves comfortable, so we want to have that remote control so that we think we can control what we watch on TV. but too bad, every soap opera does comes to an end doesn’t it? So? we look forward to the next episode, and the next and the next. and they keep telling us, stay tuned! stay tuned! and not only that feeds our mind with new soap operas to keep the mind from the frantic search of something else more powerful that ‘forever.’

What we cling onto. we lose power, initiative. there is something very sublime about un-forever. it gives chance, a chance because if every mistake we make is forever, with no opportunity to correct it, to learn from it. Quite frankly the opposite is just as true. It is more insane to think that we know that forever is forever, when it is not. If everything stays in a permanent state of fixated-ness, then there will not be growth, there will not be the newness of things, there will not be this post, this blog. because everything changes and not everything changes for you to be comfortable with, too bad deal with it.

So what is forever then? too bad, this post ends up as a waste of time because it offers the reader nothing definitive about forever. I attempt to tell what it is not than what it is, because it is a much larger mass of unforever-ness than forever. There is a reason for that, because forever does not exists!
