Hate- what is it?

There is a lot of angst going around, even though things seems rosy around this part of town. Well, around the world, there is still a lot of hate circulating the globe.

Its a strong subject, Hate. just the mention of it can invoke a certain emotions in people. but what is it really? As much as it is a ‘universal’ emotion, it is also a very personal one. Everybody wants to have a say about their hate, because it is such a strong emotion. Everyone wants to know how much they hate is or hate that.

Practicing the martial art with 爱 as the first word, its amazing how we shun ‘Hate’ and how little we know about ‘Hate’. There is so much questions about Hate but we choose to look at love instead, thinking that by focusing on love, somehow Hate will go away.

We have to understand Hate, and the mechanism on how Hate works. But we are playing with fire here, because if we are not careful, we might get consumed by hate before we know it. Its like fire, easier to start than to douse one, so similarly it is much easier to hate than to love, hence it is easier to get caught up in hating rather than loving.

Some people like to use the feeling of hate, thinking that they can harness the intensity of hatred and focus on the destruction of their object of hate. Truth to the matter is that this is a quick fix way to get things done. Sure a military general can embolden his soldiers by making them hate their enemy. Surely they will carry their organised destruction far more powerful than they could possibly be stopped. On the other hand, the general can use love, the love for your land, and the soldiers’ duties to protect their families and friends from their enemies, from harm, this is a far greater reason for soldiers to fight.

When you hate, you begin to draw a distinction between ‘them and us’ where in reality, it is almost impossible to do so. Just because a soldier wears a different uniform from us, doesn’t make him the ‘enemy’. that solider too have parents, friends and home to go back to. but with hate, we blind ourselves to all that and kill him, before we get killed.

We cannot rationalise hate. Once you hate, and begin to hate more, reasons to hate build very quickly and you will never know how much you hated the person to begin with. Then no amount of reason and logic can bring sanity to a person filled with hatred. As quickly as hatred can build up, it dissipates quickly too, and people hooked on hatred will find a despair in void, because that object of hatred is gone. So they will find other objects to hate. ultimately, redirecting that hate energy back to themselves. Everything falls away and when there is nothing else left to direct your hate at, you will ultimately direct it back to yourself. And you will eat yourself up with hatred and becomes a bitter person, hating anything and everything you lay your hands on.

If you have become such a vengeful person, all is not lost. you’ve traveled that extreme and reached the boundaries of your hatred, when you’ve hated everything that you can ever hated, done all the hating you can ever do, and reached the cliffs of hate, jump right off, and break away from the hate.
