Gaynor’s been coming back to class, and his presence is certainly welcomed.
He’s got a chirpy persona and certainly brings more joy to the mat, well, we can always use a little more joy. He has also some kind of Karate background and this give us some confidence to move in terms of distancing. So there is room for us to try out new ways of getting around the techniques and movement.
There is one time, he had a firm grip on my wrist and i was already stuck, trying to unstuck myself. The thing is i got so focused trying to move him, i unwittingly got tensed up.
Then he went like : “What the f**k are you doing!?” , “What the f**k are you doing!?” a couple of times, this somehow brings a about an awareness about the tension, and we all had a good hearty laugh, which gave the situation another look, and allowed me that angle to move.
Sometimes it is helpful to have that “What the f**k are you doing!?” from your fellow practitioners, as we get too caught up with ourselves and in our struggles. The “What the f**k are you doing!?” moment will help us break away and look at the ‘problem’ from another angle. Its liken a wake up call that brings us back to the situation.
Can you imagine, achieving Satori from a “What the f**k are you doing!?” moment? That would have been something…
