Well Dan

My friend Matthias has this interesting perspective about the grades. He’d rather look at the number of years in training, than to look at the number before the dan, as a measure of the Aikidoka’s skills, as well as understanding.

Hence you might be a 3rd dan but only possess single digit in the number of years in training, that wouldn’t have been a comfortable prospect, as compared to a person who could be a 2 dan but with over 20 years of training.

Not just in rank, but in life as well. a 20 year old could possess the practical wisdom that a 40 year old could only dream of.
